Lawyers Without Borders

We are the Student Division of Lawyers Without Borders at the University of Glasgow.

We carry out pro-bono legal research, fundraising and events, which this year will include: i) a research collaboration with C4ADS, a think-tank for data-driven analysis and evidence-based reporting on global conflict and transnational security issues; ii) a documentary screening, followed by Q&A with the creators; iii) social events, like pub quizzes and, notably, Lawathons, within the Glasgow group and with other LWOB student divisions.

Past events include workshops with leading organisations and lawyers, such as: a gender-based violence solutions workshop, with Busayapa “Best” Srisompong, prominent human rights lawyer and founder of SHero; informative talks with lawyers of the calibre of Burness Paull partner Jamie Kerr on immigration after Brexit; careers in Human Rights, in partnership with the University Employability Team, featuring speakers such as Farida Elfallah, from JustRight Scotland, and Mhairi Snowden, from Amnesty International.

We also participated in the International Rule of Law Challenge, in which we won Best Prototype (jointly with University of Melbourne) for a card-game educating players on trial advocacy skills.
