Glasgow University Law Society
The Glasgow University Law Society (GULS) is the University's oldest and largest student-led law society. It offers its members well attended social, academic, and sporting events throughout the year. GULS aims to encourage students to meet as many peers as possible, to broaden contacts and a support system, through a variety of in-person and virtual events. The society organises the Law Review, a scholarly journal published, written, and managed by students. It provides a platform for publishing the best student essays every year. It also publishes commentaries written by law students on legal issues and academic writing workshops and publishing advice for law students on topics such as studying abroad and mooting.
Our sporting events are popular amongst members and we hope to continue expanding what we offer in this area. GULS sports teams include football, netball and hockey. We see it is our responsibility to allow you to get involved in a setting where meaningful interaction can take place. We recommend you take part as much as possible in your chosen sport to allow you the opportunity to meet other peers. In terms of social events, we hold a variety throughout the term such as ‘Family Ties’ and pub crawls, which always see large turnouts. These events are also important for students to socialise with each other outside of lectures and tutorials. Our biggest and most popular event is the GULS Law Ball, usually held at the start of the second semester. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. We aim to incorporate charity work alongside our social events. For the past two years, we have chosen to support Glasgow Clyde Rape Crisis, raising money through sporting events and pub quizzes, for example.
