School of Law

The Environmental Justice Clinic is delighted to celebrate the launch of Teaching and Learning Climate and Environmental Justice in Law Schools: Global Perspectives on Transforming the Curriculum, coedited by Dr. Rebecca Williams (our academic supervisor) alongside Richard Grimes, Stephen Levett, and Rebecca Samaras.

The book explores how law schools worldwide can embed climate and environmental justice into legal education. It features global case studies, experiential learning models, and strategies for partnering with communities most affected by environmental harm. The book launch was hosted at the University of York Sustainability Clinic in late September.

Momentum for this book grew from a workshop on creating climate justice clinics held at the University of Glasgow in November 2023. This event was funded by the Society of Legal Scholars ‘Law School and the Climate Crisis’ Fund and convened clinicians, stakeholders, students and academics to discuss the value and practicalities of establishing climate clinics.
