Dr Jill Robbie

I am a Senior Lecturer in Private Law at the University of Glasgow. I obtained my law degree at the University of Edinburgh in 2008. I then went on to complete a PhD entitled "Private Water Rights in Scots Law" at the same institution, supervised by Professor Kenneth Reid and Mr Scott Wortley. Following submission of my doctorate in 2012, I pursued becoming a qualified solicitor through obtaining the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh and undertaking a legal traineeship at Brodies LLP between 2013 and 2015. I was appointed at the University of Glasgow in August 2015.

My monograph, Private Water Rights, based on my PhD thesis, was published by Edinburgh Legal Education Trust in 2015. This book undertook a historical investigation into how the existing regime in Scotland was formed. As the law in Scotland was settled in the mid-19th century, it is now considerably out-of-step with modern concerns. The main focus of my current research, therefore, is on reform of water rights in a comparative context.
