Dr. Emily Addington

Post Doctoral Researcher

Roe Group Member: 2023 – Present

I carried out my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia, remaining at the university to complete a master’s by Research in Biomolecular Science. Following a year as a research assistant at the University of Strathclyde, I undertook my PhD in molecular microbiology at the University of Strathclyde. The topic of the PhD project was the evolution of bacterial virulence, specifically looking at the mammalian cell entry operon of Streptomyces coelicolor. Upon completion of my PhD and during the COVID pandemic, I worked for a year in an NHS virology lab. My current role in the Roe lab as a postdoctoral research assistant is to work on E. coli strains capable of producing the genotoxin, colibactin, and the role of this genotoxin in the development of colorectal cancer.
