Title: Neutrophil metabolism supports metastasis of mammary cancer by altering immune and extracellular matrix landscapes
Bio: Cassie initially began her scientific career in industry, contributing to drug discovery programmes across a variety of therapeutic areas at Pfizer, including Obesity therapeutics. Cassie then transitioned to academia, completing a PhD at the CRUK Beatson Institute, were her work found a role for tRNAs in influencing extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition to support cancer progression, before moving on to do a Post-Doc at the Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre. Since 2018, Cassie has been an Associate Scientist at the CRUK Scotland Institute, with her research focusing on understanding how neutrophil metabolism influences niche priming and metastasis. Having recently been awarded a CRUK Biology to Prevention Award, to understand how neutrophil metabolism influences the precancerous landscape, Cassie now plans to focus her future research on understanding how obesity-associated neutrophils influence the microenvironment, and what consequence this has for the development of primary and secondary cancers.
