Alex Mackay attends special First Lady of Malawi event

The Institute's Alex Mackay was invited to attend a special Malawi Girl Child Partnership reception with Madame Monica Chakwera, the First Lady of Malawi, at the David Livingstone Birthplace Centre, Blantyre as part of COP26 on Monday 1 November 2021.

The Institute's Alex Mackay was invited to attend a special Malawi Girl Child Partnership reception with Madame Monica Chakwera, the First Lady of Malawi, at the David Livingstone Birthplace Centre, Blantyre.

Organised by the Scotland Malawi Partnership, the Association of Malawians in Scotland, the Shaping our Future Foundation and the Malawi High Commission, the event focused on the First Lady’s work through the Shaping the Future Foundation.

Held this past Monday, Wellcome Centre for Integrative Parasitology (WCIP) administrator Alex met with the First Lady and presented her with a special quaich.

Titled the Scottish Cup of Friendship, it celebrates the strong bonds and collaboration between the University of Glasgow and Malawi.

Posting on the WCIP Twitter account, Alex said: "I was honoured to have met the First Lady of Malawi, Madame Monica Chakwera, today to present her with a University of Glasgow quaich, the Scottish Cup of Friendship."
