Professor Nicola Veitch appointed new School of Infection & Immunity Director of Education

Head of School Professor Julia Edgar has announced that Professor Nicola Veitch has been appointed Director of Education for the School of Infection & Immunity, officially succeeding current DoE Professor Olwyn Byron on Friday, 10 October 2025.
Head of School Professor Julia Edgar is delighted to announce that Professor Nicola Veitch has been appointed Director of Education for the School of Infection & Immunity.
Professor Veitch succeeds current DoE Professor Olwyn Byron, with whom she will work closely to ensure a smooth transition before officially starting the role on Friday, 10 October 2025.
Professor Edgar said: “As Professor Olwyn Byron stands down as the school’s Director of Education, I am delighted to share the news that Professor Nicola Veitch has been appointed as the school’s new Director of Education.
"Please join me in congratulating Nicola on securing this new role.
"Nicola has been a Learning, Teaching, and Scholarship Lecturer since 2011 and brings both her experience as Deputy Director of Education and Programme Co-ordinator to the role.
"I trust Nicola will make an excellent DoE, shaping the school’s education strategy while supporting the underpinning aims of MVLS.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Olwyn for her valuable contributions during her tenure.
"Her dedication to education and her efforts to ensure that Sii continues to uphold the highest standards of teaching for the next generation of scientists have been truly commendable.
“She has also been an immense support to me as a member of the Leadership Team.”
