Join us in celebrating the inaugural lectures of two School of Infection & Immunity professors: Gwo-tzer Ho will deliver his address this Friday, with Nicola Veitch to follow on Thursday, 11 September 2025.
Two members of the School of Infection & Immunity academic community are scheduled to deliver their inaugural lectures, marking a significant milestone in their careers.
Professor Gwo-tzer Ho
Gwo-tzer Ho, a Professor of Gastroenterology, will deliver his inaugural lecture this coming Friday, with a pre-talk reception taking place in the Fore Hall from 5-6pm.

- 6-7pm
- Humanity Lecture Theatre, Gilbert Scott Building
Join Professor Ho as he explores his work in a lecture titled: ‘Why do people develop Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)? Glasgow, and back again.’
Trained in Medicine in Glasgow, it was here that he first became interested in inflammatory bowel diseases.
He completed a PhD in genetics with Professor Jack Satsangi in Edinburgh before switching to Chapel Hill, USA due to an MRC award in gut immunology with Professor Balfour Sartor.
Next, Gwo-tzer returned to Scotland to set up his own lab in the Centre for Inflammation of Research at the University of Edinburgh and then join us here at UofG in January 2025.
He now leads a Scotland-wide translational science group that investigates the complexities of IBD, spanning mucosal immunology and human clinical studies.
With a strong interest in understanding the processes that govern gut mucosal healing in Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis, Professor Ho works to bridge discovery science to the clinic, where he continues to care for IBD patients and maintain a keen interest in patient-public engagement.
Professor Nicola Veitch
Nicola Veitch, a Professor of Bioscience Education and Parasitology, will deliver her inaugural lecture on Thursday, 11 September 2025.
Hosted by the College of Medicine, Veterinary, and Life Sciences' Learning, Teaching, and Scholarship Network, the lecture will take place from 3-4pm with a drinks reception following.
