Research interests

‌My research focuses on ancient historical thinking, and on how both Romans and Greeks used history as a medium for reflection. I also work on Classical Reception (especially in the eighteenth century), and on gender in antiquity. My next big project centres on Roman ideas of materialism, and is supported by a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship, running from 2014-2017.

Supervision

I would welcome enquiries from potential research students in the following areas: ancient philosophy of history; Latin literature of the late republican and Augustan periods; Dionysius of Halicarnassus; the intersection of historiography and rhetoric; gender; Classical Reception.
