Biography

Dr Shona Mackinnon is an academic GP registrar in a Deep End Practice in Glasgow. She has experience in qualitative and quantitative research, systematic review and randomised controlled trials, and has delivered over 20 local, national and international oral and poster presentations.

Shona completed an intercalated BSc in Clinical Medicine in 2015 (1st Class Honours) and graduated in medicine from the University of Glasgow in 2017, graduating top of her year and receiving the Trades House Medical Prize as well as 13 other academic awards during her time at medical school. Following this, she completed the Academic Foundation Programme in London, and was awarded the Foundation Trainee Merit Award for Clinical Excellence and the Isaac Shapera Trust Research Scholarship.

Shona has an interest in health systems strengthening and global health equity, with experience in Zambia, Malawi, India, USA, Sweden, China and Rwanda. She is particularly interested in migrant health, and has worked with refugees in Calais, Brussels, Dunkirk and the UK. In 2020, she completed a Master’s in Global Health Delivery at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda (graduating top of her year).

She has completed the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellowship at NHS England, is a British Council Future Leaders Connect Alumna, and Scotland Regional Lead for the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management’s Trainee Steering Group.
