Biography

Sara Macdonald joined General Practice and Primary Care as a Research Fellow in 2002, working on a systematic review on the diagnosis of cancer in primary care. Since 2010, Sara has worked on a series of projects that focus on the experience of health care and understanding of risk, including the experience of treatment burden in those living with multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs). She is also interested in access to healthcare, particularly for marginalised groups. For the last several years Sara’s work has focused on mitigating health inequalities within communities and is particularly interested in how community-based approaches can improve health.

Sara is academic lead for the Byres Hub, which seeks to facilitate community-focused research with organisations across the city.

Sara is an established qualitative researcher with expertise in a wide range of methods, including ethnographic approaches, and analytic techniques. She is a committed participatory researcher, using co-design and arts-based approaches to facilitate community responsive research. Expert in lived-experience and PPIE approaches.
