Tell us a bit about what you do in SHW

I am SHW’s Postgraduate Research Student Administrator. I do many tasks to help support our PhD students. I help with the admissions process, I organise our Seminar Series and Annual Conference, and I liaise with the PGR convenors to make sure all PGR students are well looked after.

I have also been helping Susan Grant, our Community Engagement Coordinator, with administration for the Byres Community Hub.

What do you enjoy about your role?

I enjoy the variety the two roles give me. I’ve enjoyed seeing the Byres Community Hub grow and be able to help all the lovely community groups! I enjoy helping our PhD students and making sure SHW PGR is running smoothly!

What are the challenges?

It would be wonderful if there was more engagement for SHW PGR. Since being in Clarice Pears we have had some trouble getting students involved. But the last few Seminar Series have been well attended and are worthwhile to students. We had a lovely Annual Conference and are hoping for another great one next year!

What is the best thing about working in SHW?

The people and the building. I really like our new Clarice Pears building, it’s such a lovely space. I especially love meeting all the dogs that come through!

Tell us something we might not know about you

I moved from Aotearoa New Zealand to Glasgow in September 2022 to pursue my masters in creative writing. I recently handed in my thesis and will be graduating in November.

When or where are you happiest?

I love to travel. I’ve really enjoyed Glasgow’s proximity to Europe and have been off travelling a few times. When you read this, I will have just gotten back from a trip to Greece and Iceland with some friends
from back home.

I also really love anytime I get to meet a dog. I love animals very much and I miss my own dog who my family sadly had to put down recently while I was here.

Tell us about something (or more than one thing!) you are proud of

I’m proud of myself for the past year in moving to the other side of the world and making Glasgow a home. I’m grateful for the friends I’ve made, and the experiences I’ve had. I’m also grateful for this job which has allowed me to support myself while here.

Any secret – or not so secret! – ambitions?

I’d like to take the piece I did for my masters thesis and turn it into a novel!

If you would like to appear in "5 minutes with...", do please get in touch (shwadmin@glasgow.ac.uk)! We aim to feature colleagues from across a wide range of roles and grades within our school, both staff and students, research/teaching and professional services.
