Healthcare interventions are increasingly complex, and so are the methods required to evaluate them. This theme focuses on assessing the value of diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic technologies within their real-world healthcare settings. This work covers both established technologies and new technologies in development.

Research Focus

We study the clinical and cost-effectiveness of new treatments, diagnostics and prognostics, taking into account their safety, delivery context, and broader societal value. Our team has deep expertise in economic evaluation alongside clinical trials and long-term outcome modelling.

Key Projects

  • Cancer in Venous Access Trial.
  • Evaluation of diagnostic approaches and devices for cardiovascular disease.
  • Research into polypharmacy and multimorbidity management.
  • Studies on diabetes treatment pathways.
  • ChildSmile oral health programme.

Policy Impact

Our work directly informs policy decisions at both local and national levels, providing evidence used by organisations such as the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
