ECR Corner – Your monthly indulgence in all things Early Career

Published: 21 September 2020

The October 2020 edition of HAWKEYE will see the launch of a new section aimed at early career researchers (ECRs) in Institute of Health and Wellbeing

Much like the unbridled fanfare that greeted the inaugural Crew Dragon space shuttle flight from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, HAWKEYE will be launching a new, and equally anticipated, section to its monthly arsenal. ‘ECR Corner’ will bring you all the latest news and happenings from the Institute’s early career researcher (ECR) staff, focussing on introducing readers to our ECR cohort, updating on current issues, providing support and guidance for personal and career development, and signposting opportunities to get involved with the ECR community.

Working as an ECR can be difficult, and with the added stressor of the COVID-19 pandemic, this has had a compounding effect on many across the University. Supporting staff throughout this period - and beyond - is a key priority for IHW and we envisage the ECR Corner being a opportunity to disseminate how the Institute is meeting this challenge. Additionally, our guiding principles are to provide a strong voice for IHW ECRs and to become a key outlet for the exchange of information as we move forward into a post-COVID era.

Look out for our special edition issues: ‘under the spotlight’, where we interview staff and ask them all the important questions of the day; and ‘a day in the life of’, where we step into the shoes of staff as they navigate the challenges of being an ECR within the Institute of Health and Wellbeing.
