West of Scotland (WoS) Safe Haven workshop

Professor Jill Pell reports back on a recent workshop aimed at encouraging colleagues to make use of data held within the WoS Safe Haven to understand and improve the health of people in Glasgow and beyond
The West of Scotland (WoS) Safe Haven has individual level data on more than 2 million people from more than 40 different databases.
The Safe Haven has undergone a number of changes recently to improve data discovery, approvals, access and analysis, and more improvements are planned.
Director of the Institute of Health and Wellbeing, Professor Jill Pell, together with Professor Sandosh Padmanabhan of the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences and Dr Charlie Mayor, Data Safe Haven Manager at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde organised a workshop to inform of these changes and answer any questions. You will find the recording below. The workshop included presentations from IHW’s Robertson Centre for Biostatistics where the main analytical platform used for Safe Haven projects is hosted, and was directed at:
- researchers who have used other routine data but not the WoS Safe Haven
- those who have used the WoS Safe Haven previously but aren’t aware of the recent changes, and
- researchers who have never used this type of resource but might want to in the future.
Professor Pell said:
"The WoS Safe Haven is a fantastic resource for research. I hope that the workshop will encourage researchers to use the safe haven to understand and improve the health of people in Glasgow and beyond."
