General Practice and Primary Care's David Blane, Andrea Williamson and Marianne McCallum were among the staff shortlisted for the "Best collaboration (policy and practice)" category of UofG's Knowledge Exchange and Public Engagement Awards 2020 for their work on the innovative GPs at the Deep End project.
Founded 10 years ago by Professor Graham Watt, the "Deep End GP" group comprises the 100 general practices serving the most deprived populations in Scotland.
This unique collaboration between academic GPs and frontline practitioners was the first time in the history of the NHS that family doctors working in areas of concentrated socio-economic deprivation had been convened, and GPs at the Deep End is now an established part of the Scottish healthcare landscape. It has also provided a template for other Deep End GP groups in both the UK and abroad.
We offer congratulations to the Deep End team, and also to the eventual winner of the "Best collaboration" category, Professor Katie Hampson, for the important research she is leading to eradicate rabies in low and middle-income countries.
