Development and Initial Validation of a Perinatal Mental Health Screening Questionnaire for Autistic and ADHD Women and Birthing People
Published: 14 September 2026
This study aims to develop and test a new questionnaire to check for mental health problems during the perinatal period (from pregnancy up to one year after the end of pregnancy) in autistic and ADHD people. The study has two goals: 1) to create a questionnaire based on the experiences of autistic and ADHD people, clinicians, and existing research; 2) to test how well this new questionnaire works.

Participation involves completing an anonymous online survey asking you about yourself, your mental health during/after pregnancy, and checking for signs of neurodivergence. This should take approximately 20 minutes.
You can participate if you have experienced perinatal mental health difficulties (i.e. emotional or psychological difficulties that can happen from the start of pregnancy, up to one year after the end of your pregnancy) in the last year. You must identify as a woman or a person assigned female at birth, be at least 18 years old, and currently living in the United Kingdom. You do not need to identify as neurodivergent to participate.
After participating, participants can enter a prize draw to win a £25 shopping voucher and opt into receiving a plain English summary of research results.
