I joined the University as a modern apprentice, after leaving school. I began working splitting my time within the Environmental Engineering labs and the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre.

During my time as an MA I attended college and completed an HNC, this was originally the only qualification I was to complete for my MA but after support from my line manager, and the school, I went on to also complete an HND. Learning the theory while being able to put it into practice really helped my development.

Not long after the end if my MA I began working within the biomedical engineering labs, I became the point of contact of over 30 researchers and at this point I felt that I needed to further develop to be able to provide the best possible support. I decided to undertake an Open University degree. Working full time while completing the degree was certainly a challenge but one that I have enjoyed.

I now work full time within the plasma processing team in the JWNC. To provide the best support you yourself must be the best you can be, and I hope that with the technician commitment now in place it will allow all members of the technical staff the ability to develop in the ways the feel they need to provide the best support possible.
