Dayana Balgabekova - Her PhD Journey
My time at the University of Glasgow’s School of Education has profoundly shaped my professional journey and ambitions. The PhD programme provided a rich and insightful understanding of educational theories and practices. It went beyond traditional pedagogy to explore the crucial social, cultural, and psychological dimensions of learning.
This holistic approach has equipped me with a nuanced perspective that is invaluable in my current work, where I focus on students’ skills development for both academic success and enhanced employability.
The School of Education fostered a deeply collaborative and reflective learning environment. The stimulating discussions I had with my PhD colleagues and friends from around the globe broadened my understanding of diverse educational contexts and approaches.
My supervisors and the other faculty were incredibly supportive and passionate experts in their fields. They encouraged critical analysis and the development of my own educational philosophy, and their mentorship instilled in me a commitment to lifelong learning and a strong desire to make a meaningful contribution to education.
The University of Glasgow’s strong emphasis on research and its connections within the educational community have provided a solid foundation for my professional growth. The research and teaching skills I developed have been essential in my professional journey to date. Looking ahead, I aim to continue enhancing student learning experience through research and practice.
I firmly believe that the values, knowledge, and networks I gained at the School of Education will be crucial in realising these aspirations, and being part of the School’s alumni network remains a source of connection and inspiration.
