Biography
I am a Lecturer in Teacher Education where I lead the fourth-year MEduc programme Education in Practice and serve as Subject Lead for Expressive Arts. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, I am also a practicing fine artist, specialising in photography, print, and moving image.
With over a decade of experience in arts education, I have worked across both state and independent primary and secondary schools, in roles including Associate Tutor, Regent, Principal Teacher, and while at GSA I worked as an Outreach Tutor. I joined the University of Glasgow in 2020, contributing to dissertation supervision, MEd/MSc teaching, and School Experience support.
My work is grounded in a passion for creativity, with a particular delight in working with young people in arts settings. This joy, combined with a commitment to social justice and inclusion, informs both my teaching and research. I am especially interested in how the expressive arts can be used to amplify pupil voice and explore issues of equity and access in education.
Research interests
My recent scholarship considers the role of the expressive arts — visual art, photography, film and screen — in engaging with themes of social justice, poverty, and inclusion in education. I am particularly interested in how creative pedagogies can amplify pupil voice and enable young people to express issues that matter to them.
I am also interested in learner pathways within the arts curriculum, with a focus on widening access to higher education for underrepresented groups. This includes a commitment to inclusive education, with particular interests in LGBT+ inclusion, equity, and belonging across school and teacher education contexts.
