Members of School of Education staff wishing to apply for conference support should follow the procedures detailed below. Staff may only submit one conference support application per financial year. The maximum funding available for presenting a paper or being a member of an Executive or Organising Committee is £800. Funding for participant attendance only is not normally available except under exceptional circumstances. Staff are expected to consult the “Guide to Sources Of Internal Research Support Funding for Staff” for more detailed information on procedures. This is available from the Research Office website.
PhD students in the School of Education may apply for School conference support funding for presenting a paper, of which they are the author or co-author. The current maximum award is £600 per application, and a student is permitted to make a maximum of two applications during the period of their studies. Applications should be made on the PhD Conference Support Application Form, available from the School of Education website under Information for current students and staff: Support for postgraduate taught and research students. A copy of the paper’s abstract and, where possible, confirmation of your paper’s acceptance, should be attached to the application form.
Retrospective applications cannot be considered. Please note that funding is not guaranteed and is only available when funds permit.
Staff Conference Support
The application should be sent in the first instance to your RTG Support administrator in room 425b of the St Andrew’s Building, who will refer it to your RTG Leader for review. In order to assist with the prompt processing of applications, completed forms should be submitted to the RTG Support Office at least THREE WEEKS IN ADVANCE of the conference and NOT after the event. Retrospective applications are unlikely to be funded. Where a late submission is unavoidable a covering letter providing an explanation must be attached to the application.
PhD Conference Support
The application should be sent in the first instance to your supervisor, and then to the RTG Support Office, Room 425b, in the St Andrew’s Building. It will then be reviewed by your Supervisor’s RTG Academic Leader. It should be noted that PhD conference funding is not guaranteed but only if funds permit.
Student Expense Claim
When claiming for expenses this must be no more than agreed with your supervisor and RTG leader at the time of your conference application. If so this must be approved prior to making a claim. Please ensure you keep a photocopy of both your reciepts and the expense claim form form.
