BDS Student Presents at The First MVLS Visualisation in Science Conference

The first MVLS Visualisation in Science conference was held at the Gilbert Scott Building on Wednesday 5th April to provide a platform for presenting work within the MVLS college in the field of visualisation and digital technology in Science. They keynote speaker was Dr Paul Chapman, School of Simulation and Visualisation, The Glasgow School of Art, who addressed the conference on the subject of 'The Evolution of the Visualisation of Science'. Huge advances have been made the area of visualisation over the last decade driven largely by the gaming industry but with potential benefits to science.

Oral presentations covered a wide range of topics including digital pathology, technology enhanced learning and teaching, the development of eTutorials, web apps, animations for learning and teaching, the development of virtual reality and augmented reality. Michelle presented her work on the use of a digital scanner to demonstrate the sources of measurement error when measuring orthodontic study models. She was warmly congratulated on her presentation and a lively discussion followed.

The conference was a great success, bringing together a diverse group from across the MVLS college to discuss and share ideas in this exciting and rapidly developing area.
