Postgraduate Research Scholarships

A number of postgraduate graduate bursaries for research degrees (MPhil/PhD) in the subject-area of Scottish Literature are available to be applied for towards the next academic year 2025-26.

Some awards will be made in the below schemes via fee waiver. A range of smaller bursaries, normally £500-£1,000, are also available.

 

The Joanna Baillie Scholarship for Research in Scottish Literature - up to £5000

Applications are invited from new or continuing Postgraduate Research students enrolled in the Scottish Literature subject area. There IS no specific criteria pertaining to research topic or period.

Shaw Scholarships - up to £5000

For students to undertake MPhil or PhD research on any aspect of Robert Burns Studies at the Centre for Robert Burns Studies, University of Glasgow. Please contact robertburnsstudies@glasgow.ac.uk if you'd like to discuss the suitability of a particular topic.

Edwin Morgan Bursary - up to £5,000

Applications are invited from new or continuing Postgraduate Research students enrolled in the Scottish Literature subject area. There is no specific criteria pertaining to research topic or period.

Tannahill Bursaries - up to £500

Applications are invited from new or continuing enrolled Postgraduate Research students in the Scottish Literature subject area. These are intended for specified research activities (eg. travel to archives/conferences, digitisation etc.) and a breakdown of costs, up to a maximum of £500, should be submitted with your application.

The Colonel Sir Walter Scott Scholarship - £1000

Applications are invited from new or continuing Postgraduate Research students enrolled in the Scottish Literature subject area. There is no specific criteria pertaining to research topic or period.
