Scottish Literature is pleased to announce that the following Postgraduate scholarships and bursaries are available for students undertaking a research degree in the academic term 2022/23.
Students must have completed the formal application process to study at the University, before they apply for the scholarships:
The Centre for Robert Burns Studies Shaw Scholarship - £5000:
This will be awarded to a student undertaking a one-year MPhil Research project on any aspect of Robert Burns, associated authors or context relevant to his work. Projects might be on the poetry, songs, prose, his historical and cultural context, reception, ‘afterlife’, contemporary significance or any other suitable topic relating to Burns’s work, life and legacy.
The Edwin Morgan Scholarship for Research in Scottish Literature - £5000
Applications are invited from new or continuing Postgraduate Research students enrolled in the Scottish Literature subject area. There is no specific criteria pertaining to research topic or period.
The Joanna Baillie Scholarship for Research in Scottish Literature - £5000
Applications are invited from new or continuing Postgraduate Research students enrolled in the Scottish Literature subject area. There is no specific criteria pertaining to research topic or period.
The Colonel Sir Walter Scott Scholarship - £3500:
Applications are invited from new or continuing Postgraduate Research students enrolled in the Scottish Literature subject area. There is no specific criteria pertaining to research topic or period.
Tannahill Bursaries - Up to £500 (at least 2 available)
Applications are invited from new or continuing enrolled Postgraduate Research students in the Scottish Literature subject area. These are intended for specified research activities (eg. travel to archives/conferences, digitisation etc.) and a breakdown of costs, up to a maximum of £500, should be submitted with your application. - Andrew Tannahill Fund

Applications should consist of:
- A summary of your research topic (no more than one page);
- An explanation of why you consider that you are eligible for these funds;
- Year (if you are a continuing student);
- Undergraduate degree award (if you are a new student);
- A clear statement re. the scholarship(s)/bursary for which you are applying;
- A breakdown of costings if you are applying for the Tannahill Bursary.
