Location:  Glasgow University Laboratory of Phonetics (GULP), first floor, 13 University Gardens.
Prganisers: Professor Jane Stuart-Smith, Dr Rachel Smith and Dr Clara Cohen

What will it cover: MSc English Language and English Linguistics students are invited to the first meeting of 'lablunch'. This is a very informal meeting of phonetics/sociophonetics staff and students at Glasgow, and it is held in the Glasgow University Laboratory of Phonetics (GULP), which is on the first floor of Number 13 University Gardens (on the lower side of University Gardens, opposite English Language & Linguistics).

Please bring your own sandwiches, coffee/drinks etc., for eating whilst listening to an informal talk on 14th September from Ottavia Tordini, a student at Pisa, who is visiting the phonetics lab and working with Italian heritage speakers in Australia.  'Lablunch' is a regular event, so we also hope you will be able to join us on future occasions for talks and/or to discuss ideas.

Do come along - it will give you a chance to meet up with other postgraduates working in phonetics and sociolinguistics, plus Professor Jane Stuart-Smith, Dr Rachel Smith and Dr Clara Cohen, who together will be teaching and working with you for your studies of Phonetics and Sociolinguistics. We look forward to meeting you.

What will it cover: The induction will give you a chance to meet other people registered on the MLitt and will run through the structure and the requirements of the programme.  We’ll also have some time to talk about how best to shape your courses of study and to discuss the facilities and opportunities available to postgraduate students in Glasgow.

Attendance: This is for all taught postgraduate students starting the MLitt in English Literature.  Please note that there are separate inductions for students who are registered on the four pathways (Fantasy; Medieval and Early Modern Literature and Culture; Modernities; and Victorian Literature).

Preparation required: Please make sure you are academically registered and enrolled in Research Training Course (ENGLIT5101).
