Research interests

Research Interests

The Adams group are interested in understanding and controlling the self-assembly of small molecules to form a range of different structures.

A specific area of interest is self-assembled low molecular weight gelators (LMWG). We have developed:

  • a number of methods for preparing gels with reproducible, controlled properties, for example a slow pH change method that has enabled self-sorted gels to be prepared.1,2,3
  • electrochemical gelation approaches, allowing spatiotemporal control over gelation.4,5 
  • are currently developing methods towards controlling the assembly in multi-component systems,5 targeting optoelectronic applications.6
  • are working on new ways of controlling gel-to-gel transitions.7
  • and are developing small angle scattering approaches to understand self-assembled systems.8,9
