Research Topics

Research within the Cooke research group focuses upon the design, synthesis and characterisation of functional organic materials. Our research explores a large variety of usually conjugated organic compounds with exciting chemical and physical properties, such as photo- and electroluminescence, redox activity, and semiconductivity. Such compounds find application as dyes and semiconductors in organic electronics, as chemical sensors, as photo-switches, or as molecular motors and machines. Our work is driven by applications of the materials as active components in areas such as OLEDs, organic solar cells, transistors, sensors, and charge and energy transport devices and batteries.
