Philip Schlesinger spoke on ‘The European creative economy and the politics of cultural values’ at the Final Conference of the ValEUR Project on ‘How “European values” unite and divide’. This international meeting was held at the Institute for European Studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles on 21 November 2019. Philip’s paper focused on the tensions between economic value and cultural value that have shaped EU creative economy policy from the outset of culture becoming a competence of the Commmunity.
