Gillian Doyle gave an invited address on ‘Challenges facing EU audiovisual and cultural industries’ to an international symposium on Cultural Industries: Pivoting to Asia? in Brussels on December 7th 2015. The event, which was well attended by EU, Korean and international policy-makers, industry participants and academics, was organised by economist Prof Patrick Messerlin Director, Groupe d’Economie Mondiale (GEM) at Sciences Po, Paris. The symposium provided a forum for discussion of preliminary findings from a major research project on K-Pop and other Asian cultural industries that Prof Messerlin is carrying our with colleagues funded by the Academy of Korean Studies and for analysis of the implications of the Korean experience for emerging Single Digital Market policy agendas in Europe.
