Philip Schlesinger, who is leading the creativity and heritage strand for CulturalBase, spoke at the inaugural conference of this multinational Horizon2020 research project. The conference took place in Barcelona on 30 September-2 October. Philip's analysis centred on Creative Europe, the present framework for pursuing an EU cultural policy. He noted the increasing dominance of cultural economy thinking in the EU and the challenge of opening cultural markets in the context of key moves in international trade. The event brought together academics with those working in executive and policy roles in a range of cultural bodies across Europe, in line with the project's aim of developing a new research agenda.
