Philip Schlesinger chaired the closing panel and keynote lecture at the 'Designing Smart Cities' conference held at the University of Strathclyde on 31 March-1 April 2015. The speakers addressed the tensions between top-down and bottom-up policies in urban transformations and the political challenges posed by the accumulation of big data for the lives of citizens.
