On 19 September, Philip Schlesinger addressed RSE Fellows, reflecting on his experience of the SGSSS ’s PhD mentoring scheme. This is jointly run by the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He discussed the mentor's complex role and, encouraging others to follow suit, described valuable ways in which encouragement and support might be offered to postgraduate researchers.
