2a: Clinical and Translational Relevance
Societal health, particularly in our community of Glasgow, is central to our research agenda. Our research will be patient-centric and driven by the needs of our community. We will embed translational goals, informed by engagement with patients and community groups into our research proposals, outputs, and collaborations, and expand our partnerships with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Biorepository and Clinical Trials Unit. This will enable us to deliver impactful research that addresses patient priorities, real-world challenges, and the evolving needs of health services.
2b: Global Reach and Societal Relevance
We will support international research collaborations that enhance global health outcomes, allowing SCMH research to address major societal challenges such as health inequalities, ageing, and multimorbidity. Our research activities will align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals enabling SCMH to be positioned as a leader in globally relevant cardiovascular and metabolic health science.
2c: Knowledge Exchange and Research Impact
We will strengthen the alignment between basic, translational, and clinical researchers in the school by establishing an annual School Research Retreat where research themes can share emerging science and make new connections. Impact will be maximised by ensuring all researchers are supported to articulate and plan for research impact, including in REF submissions.
Working closely with colleagues in innovation services, we will cultivate an environment where innovation, knowledge exchange, and enterprise thrive. Our ambition is to create clearer pathways through which our research can shape policy, transform health systems, stimulate industry, and enrich society. Central to this vision is the deepening of partnerships with external stakeholders, including charities, UKRI & CSO, and the private sector, ensuring that our ideas and discoveries resonate beyond the university and deliver lasting impact.
