Undergraduate Accounting and Finance Transfer Policy
The UG Accounting and Finance Policy should be read in conjunction with the University's Student Transfer Policy and with reference to the Generic Undergraduate regulations and the BAcc or BFin regulations. There are links to these regulations within the application form.
Please note: Transfer requests will only be considered if the transfer application form has been completed. This form will only accept applications between 1st July and the end of the Semester 2 add/drop period in January. Transfer requests will not be considered outwith this period. It is only possible to transfer into Level 1 or Level 2 of the BAcc and BFin programmes, transfer into Honours levels from other programmes is not possible. It may be possible to allow plan changes within the BAcc programme at Honours level, please speak to your adviser of studies about this first.
Please be aware that this form will only accept applications from 1st July to end of the Semester 2 add/drop period.
Transfer into Year 1
Transfer process and deadlines:
- Before 1st August: Applicants for new entry into the University should contact Admissions to request a transfer.
- Between 1st of August and the end of Semester 1 add/drop period (typically the first two weeks of the semester): Students should contact their original advising team and complete the Accounting & Finance transfer application form.
- After the Semester 1 add/drop period: Students currently on BAcc, BFin or BSc Accounting & Finance joint honours programmes can continue to submit the Accounting & Finance transfer application form. Students who are not currently registered on an Accounting & Finance programme will be required to re-apply via UCAS for year 1 entry the following academic year or submit the internal transfer application form when it reopens in July for the following academic year.
The advising team will consider whether a tranfer for students currently on a BAcc, BFin or BSc Accounting & Finance joint honours programme is feasible after the end of the Semester 1 add/drop period. However, if a transfer is not possible, students will be required to re-submit their application for transfer at the start of the following academic year when it re-opens in July.
Students who are not currently on a programme that includes Accounting & Finance courses may apply via the Accounting & Finance transfer form and will be required to provide evidence of meeting the entry requirements for the BAcc and BFin programmes.
Transfer form availability:
- Form will open on 1st July for current/continuing students.
- New students to the University will gain access in August once they have received a GUID.
- The form will close to all students at the end of the Semester 2 add/drop period.
Succesful applications for transfers into year 1 are subject to:
a) meeting the entry requirements for the degree programme
b) available capacity on programme and in core courses for additional students
c) demonstrable motivation to study the degree plan via the application form
d) support from your current advising team for transfer (all students with a currently assigned adviser of studies must contact them to discuss the transfer and their options before completing the transfer form
Transfer into Year 2
The BAcc and BFin programmes have fixed curriculums. As a result, transfers into Level 2 will not be considered unless a student has met the undergraduate requirements for progression into Level 2 and have completed a sufficient number of credites of the Level 1 core courses. This means that transfers into Level 2 will normally only be considered for students already on a programme that includes Accounting & Finance courses.
Internal Transfers within BAcc/BFin programmes
Transfers within BAcc programmes:
Students who wish to transfer from one BAcc plan to another BAcc plan should complete the transfer application form. Transfers will be automatically approved if no changes to course enrolments are required. Where changes to course enrolments are necessary in order to meet the requirements of the new plan, the advising team will review the application form and advise the student accordingly. Please note that course enrolments cannot be changed after the end of the add/drop period in either Semester 1 or Semester 2.
Transfers between BAcc and BFin programmes:
Students who wish to transfer between BAcc and BFin programmes should complete the transfer application form for consideration by the advising team. These programmes have the same entry requirements, therefore transfer applications into Year 1 will normally be accepted.
Students can transfer from BFin into BAcc Year 2 before the end of Semester 1 add/drop period, provided they meet the following requirements:
a) meet the Undergraduate requirements for progression into Year 2 and achieve a grade D3 or above in all Level 1 courses, or have been allowed to progress into Year 2 by the Academic Review Panel.
b) students will be required to take ACCFIN1017 alonside their Level 2 courses, resulting in a 140 credit load in Level 2.
Transfers from BAcc into BFin Level 2 are not possible, unless a student is on a joint BAcc/Economics degree, as BAcc students will not have completed the required prerequisite courses for Economics 2A and Economics 2B. BAcc students wishing to transfer into BFin will be required to take a supplementary year in order to pass the required Level 1 BFin courses.
