Biography

Jonathan Lee joined the Adam Smith Business School as a Lecturer in Finance in 2022. He holds an MSc in Money, Banking and Finance from Lancaster University and a PhD in Finance from the University of Bristol. His research interests lie broadly in applied financial economics, with a particular focus on banking, financial stability and the interaction between financial institutions and the wider economy. His recent work examines bank runs and depositor behaviour, private-sector solutions within the financial safety net, the effects of legal and litigation risk on bank lending, and how institutional and economic shocks influence banks’ behaviour and financial outcomes.

Supervision

Jonathan welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in empirical banking, applied financial econometrics and real estate finance. He is particularly interested in supervising projects examining bank behaviour, financial stability, depositor behaviour and bank runs, lending decisions, and the interaction between financial institutions and real estate markets.
