Professor Sabina Siebert has been awarded Academic Fellowship of the Scottish Parliament. She is joined in this award by Professor Kevin Orr of the University of St Andrews. They will be using the Fellowships to undertake an ethnographic study of the Scottish Parliament.

They will explore how Parliament building shapes the workings of the institution. The study involves asking: how do people shape the Parliamentary spaces, and how do Parliamentary spaces affect the practices, modes of working and people’s interactions?

Professor Siebert said: “The recent 20th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the Parliament as an institution and its wider impact. As Academic Fellows with access to Parliamentary spaces, we will explore how the design of this modern building has shaped working practices. We aim to examine what customs and traditions have emerged and become established in this space. And we can look at how these might constrain and enable future evolution of the building in light of wider political change in Scotland and the UK.”
