Congratulations to Business School colleagues Professor Diedre Shaw, Dr Kat Duffy, Dr Yingru Li and Dr Paulina Navrouzoglou, along with undergraduate Laavanya Varadarajan Shanmugapriya whose inspiring work has been shortlisted in the Herald’s 2026 Inspiring City, and the 2026 Scottish Impact awards.

SustainAble made the finals in two categories of the Inspiring City Awards 2026 for Youth Empowerment Project and Community Impact – Education, Skills & Employability.
This co-produced community initiative combines disability inclusion, health promotion, meaningful youth leadership and environmental sustainability through accessible microgreens cultivation.
Developed in partnership with Enable Glasgow: Fortune Works and the University of Glasgow, the project empowers people with learning disabilities to become active contributors to healthier and more sustainable communities.
By combining community engagement, interdisciplinary research and student leadership, SustainAble challenges eco-ableism and demonstrates that climate action can be inclusive, practical and community-led.
The project provides a low-cost, transferable model that is already influencing practice, learning and civic engagement across Glasgow and has potential for wider adoption.
Worthwhile Wardrobe has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Inspiring City Environmental category. It explores how charities can rethink their retail models to tackle the twin challenges of fast fashion and falling donation quality. The team worked in partnership with the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, industry experts, and consumer voices to trial a new approach to charity retail; one that centres on reuse, transparency, and longevity.
Selected as a finalist for the Community Impact Award in the Scottish Impact Awards 2026, The Social Enterprise Challenge demonstrates meaningful community collaboration, measurable support for local social enterprises, sustained stakeholder engagement and a clear contribution to Scotland’s social enterprise ecosystem. It also contains strong secondary evidence for Sustainable Innovation, particularly through student led solutions around circular economy, revenue generation, financial sustainability and social impact measurement.
