Adam Smith Business School and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore held a virtual ceremony in August 2022 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, signifying our shared intention to develop meaningful collaborations going forward.

Professor Moyra Boland, University of Glasgow Dean for Global Engagement in Central and South Asia, opened the ceremony with remarks on the strategic importance of strengthening relations in India, noting the shared values between the Adam Smith Business School and IIM Indore, as well as the shared triple crown accreditations of EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA.

These values, such as a commitment to social responsibility and sustainable management, were also highlighted in remarks from signatories Professor Sara Carter, University of Glasgow Vice-Principle and Head of College of Social Sciences, and Professor Himanshu Rai, Director of IIM Indore, before each signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

Closing remarks were made by Professors Pritam Ranjan and Subin Sudhir of IIM Indore, and Professor John Finch, Head of Adam Smith Business School, reflecting on potential collaborations in research, mobility and continuing professional development. IIM Indore is a triple accredited business school, amongst the top 10 institutions for management in India. Partnership with IIM Indore is of key importance for the University of Glasgow to achieve its four internationalisation priorities of global relationships, global research, global recruitment and global reputation.

IIM Indore’s commitment to socially conscious managers, leaders and entrepreneurs, fits particularly well with our aim to understand and transform societies through our collaborations.

The partnership development has been led by Dr Belgin Okay-Somerville and represents an exciting new development in a region of growing interest. Considering the recent Memorandum of Understanding between the United Kingdom and Indian governments on mutual recognition of academic qualifications, this new partnership is very timely.
