Adam Smith Business School

Dr Wei Yang and Professor Bowei Chen from Management visited our strategic partner institution, Nankai University Business School in China recently.

Funded by the Glasgow’s Global Partnership Fund (GGPF), the trips were intended to enhance research collaboration on the topic of “High-tech Firm Decision Making and AI” between the collaborators at both institutions.

 

In December 2025, Bowei visited Nankai University Business School and delivered several research talks on AI applications in business analytics to different academic staff and students. He also engaged with academics in Department of Marketing and Department of Management Science and Engineering to explore potential research collaborations.

 

This was followed by Wei’s recent visit at Nankai in May 2026. During the visit, Wei delivered a series of research talks and guest lectures to the faculty and students on geopolitics and international business, firm competitive strategy, and the use of big data on management research. She also engaged with various faculty members and discussed topics on future funding applications, academic exchanges, and case study writing. Wei received the honour of Visiting Professor from the China Corporate Governance Centre at the Nankai University Business School, with which she was invited to visit Nankai on a regular basis.

Beyond these visits, the collaboration has already generated two additional outcomes. First, Wei and Bowei were invited to serve as Co-Investigators alongside Professor Hui Xu at Nankai on a National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) grant application submitted in March 2026. Second, Wei, Bowei, and Hui collaborated on a research conference paper that has been accepted for presentation at the Academy of International Business (AIB) Annual Conference in Manchester in June/July 2026, which Wei and Hui will attend and present.

These activities have further strengthened the partnership between the Adam Smith Business School and Nankai University Business School, laying the foundation for enhanced academic collaboration and joint research in the years ahead.
