President’s Welcome

Helo future vets of the Class of 2031! Welcome to the amazing community at the University of Glasgow!

We are so happy to have you al, from far and near, as you al contribute something unique and special to our community. You are al here, united on this path, and your peers wil be here to bring you strength in times of hardship, and to rejoice with you in your victories. The community here in Glasgow has so much to offer you, this is a place where you can find your people and explore your passions. There is truly something for everyone in our wide variety of clubs, sports teams, and societies within the GUVMA community. Be loud, be proud and get involved as much as you can! This is truly a place where the more you put into it, the more you wil get out of your experience.

What is GUVMA? Why should I join?

The Glasgow University Veterinary Medical Association is a collection of student representatives, clubs, and societies, which collectively serve to enhance the student experience here at University of Glasgow, both professionally and socially. All students are welcome to join!

Why join?

Student Voice

  • We represent the student interests to the administration and university - this contributes to maintaining the sense of unity we have on the vet school campus, we all come together so that we can achieve more.

Events

  • Being a GUVMA member allows you free or reduced entry fees to all GUVMA-sponsored events, vote in all GUVMA elections to help choose your representation and sit in on the committee/run in elections to help us continue to make this campus an amazing place! It also gives you free membership to AVS and IVSA. It is a lifetime membership, so you stay a part of the Glasgow Vet School community even after you graduate!

  • Free or reduced entry fees to all GUVMA events Paid membership for AVS and IVSA - being a part of GUVMA is the only way to get a ticket to AVS sports weekend Vote in all GUVMA elections to have your say in making our campus a better place Access to the GUVMA Common Room - crafts, wii, clinical skills practice materials, and more Lifetime membership - alumni and community events

Membership Fee

  • GUVMA membership is a one time fee of £50 for BVMS students and £40 for Biovets

Where does the money go?

  • Straight back into the student body! Provides bursaries to student initiatives, clubs, sports teams, and year events through the year reps. Putting on our many events throughout the year. Funding our common spaces.
  • We ensure that over your time here at Glasgow, your savings on events amount to more than your membership price

SAVMA / ISCVMA

You must be a GUVMA member to participate in most of our events, vote in elections, and use our shared spaces. Sign up using the QR code on the previous page or visit us at our booth at Fresher’s Fayre!

North American Students: If you are from the USA it is suggested that you join SAVMA to keep up to date on everything involving the AVMA. You wi l also need insurance for your clinical years, which wil be covered if you join SAVMA!

Canadian Students: Join the ISCVMA to keep up to date on everything involving the Canadian Veteirnary Medical Association.

Year Representatives

The role of a class representative involves gathering and fairly representing classmates’ views to staff, ensuring balanced feedback, and encouraging student participation in feedback activities. Reps attend various meetings, including informal discussions with course leaders, focus groups, and school wide committees like the SSLC. If issues arise, support is available from the Student Experience Manager.
