In Glasgow university, most people encounter the name when looking for gowns for graduation ceremonies: Ede & Ravenscroft specialises in formal wear. The company also sponsors various academic prizes, and one of them is annually awarded to the most distinguished University of Glasgow Life Sciences graduate student of the year, across all the 16 Life Sciences degrees.

In 2023, this prize was awarded to a Zoology MSci graduate Avery Holmes who excelled in his studies and often impressed the teaching staff as exemplified by a comment by his honours project supervisor, Professor Roman Biek: “It was a pleasure to supervise Avery’s honours project. He was highly creative, organised and engaged throughout and demonstrated an exceptional ability to solve problems and to organise his work independently. His intellectual ability, skills and motivation make him stand out among his peers.”

School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine, and particularly the Zoology, and Marine and Freshwater Biology team would like to congratulate Avery wholeheartedly!
