Biography

I am an experienced academic researcher with a track record of delivering on all aspects of social and health focused mixed methods studies. I have specific expertise in qualitative research and analyses and can demonstrate comprehensive understanding and application of NVivo 14 data management software.

I have worked as a researcher on 11 research projects at four Scottish universities. Research projects have included feasibility and pilot studies right through to complex multisite randomised controlled trials including formal process evaluations. This is in addition to my existing role with Social and Public Health Sciences Unit/Medical Research Council.

I studied Community Education at the University of Strathclyde and specialised in Community Development. This area of study relates directly to my ongoing research interests working with marginalised groups, systems and service developments, and communities of interest.

I have recently completed an MSc at University of Strathclyde in Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Research interests

My recent research interests include:

  • Societal and service impacts on quality of life, health, and wellbeing for adult and child populations where neurodiversity and adversity are contributory factors.
  • Effective methods of engagement for people with lived experience of adversity in self-advocacy, and within service design contexts.
  • The application of Normalization Process Theory to understand the work of the researcher in complex multisite randomised controlled trials.

Previous (and continuing) research interests include:

  • Gender roles and the Social Model of Health
  • Substance use versus misuse
  • Developments in medicine management and reviews in care homes for older people
  • Health Promotion in community pharmacies
  • Understanding equality and diversity in NHS services in Scotland
