University of Glasgow is reviewing its flexible working policy and inviting staff to contribute to the process.

The 2018 Staff Survey established that 49% of respondents felt supported to have a good work-life balance and, as a result, the University’s Senior Management Group (SMG) has endorsed a review of the University’s flexible working policy framework.

Christine Barr, Executive Director of Human Resources, said:

“This review supports an enabling culture where a healthy work-life balance is the norm and contribution is measured through outputs aligned with University values and strategic aims.”

Initial focus groups were held on the 20 and 24 May 2019. Colleagues who were unable to attend the focus groups but would still like to participate may join the conversation on Yammer (UofG Have Your Say) or by emailing haveyoursay@glasgow.ac.uk.

The information gathered through the consultation process will be used to:

  • build a better understanding of the extent and nature of existing flexible working practices
  • understand potential challenges around flexible working
  • assess the effectiveness of the existing Flexible Working Policy
  • inform the development of a new flexible working framework, aligned to the strategic aims of the University
  • inform the University’s Athena SWAN application
