The IHW Athena SWAN professional services and early career researcher groups have a standing invitation to attend working group meetings.

The initial aim of this group was to set up a mentoring scheme in line with the existing examples of good practice from institutions/departments with Athena Swan gold awards. Initially there was a focus on gender equality and ensuring that this was considered within the mentoring scheme. Whilst we aim to build upon the progress already achieved with regards to gender equality, this is not the only potential source of inequality. Therefore we aim to consider all forms of bias within the mentoring scheme.

This group encompasses (and works closely with) the PGR student mentorship scheme

The mentorship group provides

  1. ongoing matching of mentors and mentees
  2. arranging periodic training for mentoring and
  3. signposting of further resources for mentoring.
