Dr Siming You

Dr. Siming You is a Lecturer in the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow. Before joining the School, he worked as a Research Fellow at NUS (National University of Singapore) Environmental Research Institute. He also served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Nanyang Technological University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2014 and 2015, respectively. He has an area of expertise in the design and analysis of environmental and energy systems with a focus on wastewater treatment and waste management. He has published widely in top-tier journals like Science, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Bioresource Technology, Applied Energy, etc. Dr. You was awarded the Outstanding Young Researcher Award by the American Institute of Chemical Engineering, SLS in 2018. He serves as a Senior Editor for Sustainable Environment (Taylor & Francis) and an Assoicated Editor for the Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering (Springer). He also sits in the Editorial Board of various top-tier journals including Journal of Hazardous Materials (Elsevier) and Bioresource Technology (Elsevier).

Prof Ashok Pandey

Centre for Innovation and Translational Research (India)

Professor Ashok Pandey is currently Distinguished Scientist at the Centre for Innovation and Translational Research, CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India and Executive Director (Honorary) at the Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability – India. His major research and technological development interests are industrial & environmental biotechnology and energy biosciences, focusing on biomass to biofuels & chemicals, waste to wealth & energy, industrial enzymes, etc. Professor Pandey is/has been Adjunct/Visiting Professor/Scientist in universities in France, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, China, South Korea, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, Switzerland, USA, UK, etc and also in several universities several in India. He has ~1600 publications/communications, which include 16 patents, 108 books, ~900 papers and book chapters, etc with h index of 118 and ~60,000 citations (Goggle scholar).

Dr Hana Kim

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Republic of Korea)

Hana Kim is an assistant professor in School of Digital Humanities & Computational Social Sciences at Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology, Republic of Korea. She received a B.Eng. Degree in Civil Engineering and an M.S. degree in Urban Planning from Seoul National University, Republic of Korea, and a Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Policy from University of Delaware, United States. Her recent research topics cover smart technology-based citizens' mobilization for energy transition, community-based energy transition, energy-water nexus, and sustainability issues in urban areas. She serves as a member of diverse policy-making councils such as the Presidential Committee for 2050 Carbon Neutrality in Korea.

 

 

Prof Quanguo Zhang

Henan Agricultural University (China)

  • Quanguo Zhang is the Vice President of Henan Agricultural University, Director of Key Laboratory of New Materials and Facilities for Renewable Energy, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China. He is a foreign academician of Ukrainian National Academy of Engineering and the fellow of the International Bioprocessing Association (IBA), He is the Deputy Director of Steering Committee of Agricultural Engineering Education, Ministry of Education, China. He is the Vice-chairman of China Biogas Society, Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering, and Chinese Universities Society of Engineering Thermophysics. He is a leader in the field of waste utilization in China, an important contributor to China's biomass energy sectors, and a pioneer researcher of solar photo-fermentation bio-hydrogen production in China. He has published more than 300 academic papers and 5 books.Seventeen achievements were awarded China's Science and Technology Progress Award. Twenty-one invention patents were granted, and won the Chinese Patent Award of Excellence. He developed and greatly promoted the clean production technology and equipment of agricultural waste multigeneration engineering in the world.
 

Prof Roger Ruan

University of Minnesota (USA)

Dr. Ruan is the Director of Center for Biorefining, and Professor and Director of Graduate Studies of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering Department at University of Minnesota. He is a Fellow of ASABE, IFT, Vebleo, and IAAM, and have received many other awards, including CAFS Professional Achievement, and Scientist of IAAM, etc. He is a top cited author in engineering and technology with an h-index of 79, i10-index of 387, and over 24,800 citations. He has published over 500 papers in refereed journals, two books, 24 book chapters, and holds 20 US patents. He has received over 200 grants totaling over $45 million in various funding for research, including major grants from USDA, DOE, DOT, DOD, and industries. He has served as editor-in-chief, associate editor, or editorial board member of many journals, and supervised over 75 graduate students, 140 post-doctors, research fellows, and other engineers and scientists. Professor Ruan has given over 300 keynote lectures, invited symposium presentations, and short courses. His research focuses on various aspects of renewable energy and environment, value-added processing, sustainable circular economy development, and food engineering. 

 

 

Prof Samir Kumar Khanal

Samir Kumar Khanal is Professor of Environmental Engineering, Dept. of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM). Prof. Khanal started his tenure-track faculty position in 2008 at UHM. Before joining UHM, he was a Post-doctoral Research Associate for 2 years and then Research Assistant Professor for 4 years in the Dept. of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at Iowa State University. He received BS (Hons) in Civil Engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, India, and MS in Environmental Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. His PhD degree is in Environmental Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong. Prof. Khanal’s research interests are in the field of anaerobic digestion, nanobubble technology, aquaponics and waste-to-resources. He has supervised/mentored 14 PhD, 21 MS, 26 UG and 13 high school students, 12 Post-docs, 15 Visiting Scholars, and 2 Junior Researchers. He has over 130 refereed publications in top-rated international journals, 17 book chapters, and 10 books including one best-selling book (Anaerobic Biotechnology for Bioenergy Production: Principles and Applications) and one textbook (Bioenergy: Principles and Applications) to his name. Prof. Khanal has also delivered over 130 plenary/keynote/invited/guest lectures nationally/internationally. He is globally known in the field of anaerobic digestion, bioenergy, aquaponics and nano-bubble technology applications. As evidenced from his achievements and research impact, Prof. Khanal was awarded the highly prestigious Board of Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research by the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (2018), Elsevier’s Impactful Research Award (2018) and CTAHR Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (2016). Prof. Khanal was also awarded Pandey Research Excellence Award, International Bioprocessing Association (2021), and Outstanding Alumni Award-2021, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2021). He is an Editor of Bioresource Technology and serves on the Editorial Board/Advisory Board of four other journals. He has also served as a leading guest editor of several special issues related to Anaerobic Digestion and Waste-to-Resources for Bioresource Technology. He has served on various committees of other professional societies, including IWA-AD-17 world congress, International Bioprocessing Association (IBA). Prof. Khanal is a professional engineer in the state of Iowa.

 

Prof Sang-Hyoun Kim

Yonsei University (Republic of Korea)

Sang-Hyoun Kim is a full professor at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Yonsei University. He received his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), where he also got his master and bachelor degrees in Civil Engineering and Chemistry, respectively. Before coming to Yonsei University, he served as a faculty member at Daegu University (2010 to 2018), a senior researcher at Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (2009 to 2010), a postdoctoral researcher at Iowa State University (2006 to 2009) and, a visiting scholar at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2016 to 2017). His research interests lie in water-energy-resources nexus. Specifically, his research focuses on anaerobic digestion of wastewater and solid waste, biohydrogen production from renewable resources, industrial symbiosis, and energy saving in industrial wastewater treatment. He is the member of Young Korean Academy of Science and Technology.

 

Prof Sang Jung Sim

Korea University (Republic of Korea)

Dr. Sang Jun Sim is a professor in Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Korea University and director of Institute of Chemical Engineering Convergence Systems. He received B.S. in chemical engineering from Seoul National University, M.S and PhD in chemical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He has experience in the field of bioenergy, CO2-conversion, mass production of biomaterials using microalgae for over 25 years. Since 2011, he is the leader of research program, Korea CCS 2020 project and Korea Carbon to X project, which are key projects for CCUS in Korea. He has published more than 270 SCI journals papers (including Nature Biotechnology, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, etc) papers and received various awards including National Scientist in this month of Korea (2017), Young Engineer Award (2016), Top 10 of excellent technologies for Climate Change Response (2015), Presidential Citation (2006), IBA IFIBIOP Award (2019), Mission innovation champion award (2020) from EU for the contribution to the algal research and biochip development from government and many academic societies in Korea. His recent H-index is 60 by Google scholar.

Mrs Jade Lui

Jade is a final year PhD student in the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow. Her PhD research is focused on the feasibility of Waste-to-Hydrogen technology for sustainable waste management and green public transport in Glasgow, Scotland. The study involves using life cycle assessment, cost benefit analysis and optimisation techniques to assess the viability of Waste-to-Hydrogen conversion technology and systems in the production of hydrogen.
