Artist in Residence

The Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology (WCIP) has appointed an Artist in Residence. Alex McConnell, a graduate of Fine Art from University of Dundee, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design will work with Research Scientists at WCIP on new and exciting projects. The young artist is currently undertaking a post graduate master’s in Art, Science and Visual Thinking at University of Dundee and one of the first collaborations will be to produce a soft sculpture installation of the life cycle of the Malaria parasite. Alex’s earlier work has been inspired by parasites and viruses. The beautiful structure of the parasite Trypansome brucei featured heavily in Alex’s undergraduate final year exhibition.

“It’s a great honour and a challenge to be invited to become WCIP’s very first Artist in Residence. There is great potential when artists and scientists collaborate to create something new together. I’m very much looking forward to working with WCIP’s world class scientists”
