Narjes Hashemi

Narjes Hashemi, a Canadian of Afghan descent, immigrated to Canada from Iran during her adolescence. Her journey into the realm of sociology ignited a profound interest in social inequalities, steering her toward academic pursuits in the field. Narjes holds an undergraduate degree in sociology from University of British Columbia and a master's in sociology of education from McGill University. Presently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University.

During the summer of 2023, Narjes served as a visiting scholar at UNESCO RILA, marking a pivotal chapter in her academic exploration. In Glasgow University, she presented her preliminary research on the educational trajectories of Afghan youths in Montreal and Vancouver, fostering engaging and enlightening discussions. Beyond academic realms, Narjes actively participated in Refugee Week activities in Scotland, demonstrating her commitment to community engagement. Additionally, she collaborated closely with Dr. Marta Moskal at the Faculty of Education, seamlessly blending her academic endeavors with practical contributions to societal well-being.

Narjes visited the UNESCO RILA project from 13 June - 20 July 2023.
