Monitoring tides, currents, and waves along coastal habitats using the Mini Buoy

To address the difficulties of shallow-water tide monitoring, the “Mini Buoy” was developed for the low-cost and long-term monitoring of tidal inundation and current velocities simultaneously.

Data integration and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data in active travel

Urban cycling behaviour is influenced by a range of factors, yet the data needed to understand these influences is often fragmented across different formats, scales, and sources. This thesis brings together data from the OpenStreetMap routable network, Nextbike cycle hire usage, Glasgow's Commonplace public consultation, and the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) to create an integrated dataset combining cycling activity, user perceptions, and socio-economic context. By developing an end-to-end, multi-stage data and analytics pipeline, the research demonstrates a replicable approach for integrating quantitative and qualitative data in urban environments, providing richer insights into urban cycling behaviour and helping identify areas for future targeted local engagement and investigation.
