Pathways to Impact

Turning research into policy, practice and action for a thriving Glasgow.

GALLANT is a transdisciplinary research partnership working with policymakers, communities, businesses and civil society to translate systems thinking and Doughnut Economics into real-world change. Using the Thriving Glasgow Portrait as a shared vision for the future, we support stakeholders to understand complex challenges, identify opportunities for change, and develop solutions that benefit people and planet.

How We Create Impact

Governed by our Executive Board with senior representatives from Glasgow City Council and University of Glasgow, our work combines:

  • Co-production of research with policymakers and practitioners.
  • Participatory systems mapping to identify barriers and opportunities for change.
  • Development of indicators and evidence to support decision-making.
  • Building partnerships and coalitions across sectors.
  • Supporting the integration of systems thinking into policy and strategy.

Influencing Glasgow's Future

Through these collaborations, the Thriving Glasgow Portrait has become a reference point for decision-makers seeking to align social and environmental ambitions and create a more equitable, sustainable and resilient city.  This is visible in the development of city policies and plans, including the Circular Economy Route Map, Climate Action Plan and evidence gathering for City Development Plan 2.  Our goal is to ensure that systems thinking, and the Doughnut Economics Framework continue to inform decision-making beyond the lifetime of GALLANT, helping Glasgow make progress towards a thriving future for current and future generations.
