This funding supported Orla's travel and accommodation to attend the final SIRFA symposium in Kirkwall, Orkney. This was the concluding symposium towards the creation of the ScARF regional framework for the Islands and brought together archaeologists from a range of sub-disciplines to discuss periods from prehistoric to 20th century.

This was an amazing opportunity for Orlato learn about the most recent research happening in a different region to her project and learn from the approaches to material there. A great deal of discussion was had into the use of landscape approaches, which is very relevant to her project.  She found it very motivating to see this type of study being discussed as a really important way to work with the data, going forward. She also benefitted greatly from being able to meet and network with people working in archaeology and heritage in Scotland who she would not normally interact with. As she am nearing the end of her PhD, making these kinds of connections is invaluable. She feels confident that this has bolstered her employability.

Without support from CSCS Orla would not have been able to afford to attend this conference, so she was extremely grateful to have been awarded this grant. She hope to be able to continue to participate in the centre after her graduation.
